Particle diffusion under confinement is one of the key parameters for the design, optimization, and understanding of particle chromatography. A joint effort of the groups of the PIs Harting, Vogel, Peukert, Inayat and Fröba, published in the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, sheds light on this relevant topic. In the paper, dynamic light scattering is used to characterize the effects of geometric hindrance and particle-wall interaction resulting in a slowing-down of diffusion of gold nanoparticles in porous silica monolith.
