Postdoc position in solid-state NMR on advanced materials

In the NMR group of Dorothea Wisser at the Erlangen Center for Interface Research and Catalysis (ECRC) at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, a Postdoc position is available in advanced solid-state MAS NMR spectroscopy on modern functional materials. The position is open immediately.

The activities will be centered on the investigation of modern materials for separation, catalysis and photoelectric applications by means of advanced multinuclear MAS NMR techniques and in situ MAS NMR spectroscopy. In particular, we are interested in the interfaces between different phases, including solid surface functionalization and deposition of thin films. For these challenging systems, the candidate will establish wide-line MAS NMR techniques as well as proton-detected 2D methods. The projects are embedded in cooperating networks in the frame of the Collaborative Research Center 1411 “Design of Particulate Products” and the Collaborative Research Center 1452 “Catalysis at Liquid Interfaces”.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a solid background in MAS NMR spectroscopy on materials. Experience with Varian spectrometers and VNMRJ are highly welcome. Independency, a team working attitude and fluency in English are required.

The NMR group of D. Wisser is affiliated to the Chair of Catalysis of Martin Hartmann at the ECRC. The chair is equipped with a 500 MHz Varian spectrometer, including 1.6, 3.2 and 6 mm MAS probes, a variable temperature flow probe for in situ MAS NMR spectroscopy and a solution NMR probe adapted for 129Xe NMR spectroscopy. A unique MAS NMR probe for photoirradiation will soon be available. The ECRC institute is fully equipped for materials analysis including X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, physisorption techniques, EPR spectroscopy and thermal analysis. Access to further instrumentation including solution-state NMR is available in neighboring institutes.

The position is a fixed-term contract for one year, with a possibility for extension. Please send a written application including a motivation letter, CV, a list of publications and the contact of a referee to dorothea.wisser@fau.de. Application deadline: November 1st 2022.
